Artemus Jenkins

Baltimore, Maryland

Artemus Jenkins is an Atlanta-based artist from Baltimore, Maryland, whose work contextualizes themes within black culture — identity, preservation and space — while simultaneously exploring a broader understanding of what encompasses the black experience in the Western world. Primarily working within the realms of film and photography, Jenkins is best known for his documentary projects and web series, including Color Outside the Lines: A Tattoo Documentary and If You Know the Words, Feel Free, a 2015 film about shared life experiences across cultures, created under his production company, Christmas in July 1982. His images, which have been featured at Notch8 Gallery, Atlanta, Georgia, document social constructs, family dynamics and everyday life within the city. Jenkins received a B.A. from Tuskegee University in Alabama.
