“Teragram is a continuation of my Percolate series, in which painting is treated as a time-based process, dependent on material interaction. The work evolves through the repeated application of diluted oil, shaped by gravity, texture, and the physical response of the surface. Chip brushes and rags replace traditional tools, allowing mixtures to flow across primed linen and form subtle, fractal-like configurations. These emergent patterns reference both natural systems and the grid structure inherent in textile fabric.
The title Teragram—“Margaret” in reverse—marks a moment in time and honors my maternal grandmother, a figure of quiet strength. As a unit of mass, the term also evokes material weight and resonance, reflecting the work’s investment in memory, presence, and the invisible forces that shape both form and meaning”. - Blanche Nettles Powers
