Mercedes-Benz Stadium Officials Announce Atlanta United’s Final Regular Season Match Will Be Played With The Roof Open, Weather Permitting

ATLANTA – October 6, 2017 – Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MBS) officials announced today that Atlanta United’s regular season finale against league-leading Toronto FC on Sunday, October 22, will be played with the stadium’s roof open, weather conditions permitting. As previously announced, the highly-anticipated match vs. Toronto FC will be played at expanded capacity configuration. Atlanta United announced yesterday that the October 22 game will break the club’s own MLS record for single-game attendance set just weeks ago at MBS when the club hosted Orlando City FC on September 16.

Ongoing work to fully automate MBS’s unique roof is progressing and sequencing of the work will allow it to be open for the Toronto FC match. Based on the current work and events schedule for the rest of the year, including potential playoff games for Atlanta United, Atlanta Falcons home games, the SEC Championship Game, the College Football Playoff Championship game in early January, as well as many other events, the Oct. 22 match will be the only public event the rest of this season that will be played with the roof open.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is home to the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons and Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United, in addition to hosting many of the world’s top sports and entertainment events including the 2018 College Football Playoff Championship game, the 2019 Super Bowl and the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2020.
