FieldTurf Is The Choice At Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Stadium News

ATLANTA (April 4, 2017)—FieldTurf will be the official playing surface for the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium when that facility opens this July.  FieldTurf—the turf of choice for most NFL and MLS teams and the world leader in artificial surfacing—today announced it will be the official playing surface at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as well as at the indoor practice field at the Atlanta Falcons’ training complex in Flowery Branch, GA.  FieldTurf will also provide the playing surfaces at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground, Atlanta United’s new training facility.

Both the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS’s Atlanta United will play their home games on the FieldTurf at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.  Atlanta United will play the first game there on July 30 when they host Orlando City.

“We are proud to have FieldTurf as our official surfacing partner for Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” said AMB Sports & Entertainment President Rich McKay.  “We’ve been partners with FieldTurf for over 14 years and when looking at turf for our new facilities there was no other choice that made sense for us.”

“We are committed to providing the best turf playing surface available for our players,” said Atlanta United President Darren Eales. “FieldTurf is known to provide top quality surfaces for soccer facilities, including the Portland Timbers’ Providence Park which is considered the best turf surface in MLS. We are pleased to partner with FieldTurf as our official surface provider.”

The latest FieldTurf technologies will be featured at the various Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United installations:

  • All of the aforementioned installations will be FieldTurf’s Revolution 360 surface, the company’s absolute top-of-the-line product. Revolution 360 is FieldTurf’s latest monofilament fiber and is the industry’s new standard.  It is quickly becoming the most popular surface in North America and is already in use at many of the nation’s top facilities including Providence Park, home to MLS’s Portland Timbers, as well as CenturyLink Field, the home of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and MLS’s Seattle Sounders.
  • FieldTurf’s innovative pad system, known as VersaTile will be installed at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and on three Atlanta United turf training fields. VersaTile not only provides exceptional performance for the athlete with respect to shock attenuation and player comfort, but also provides unmatched drainage properties.
  • FieldTurf’s performance-proven cooling system, CoolPlay, has been installed on over 100 fields across the U.S. and has also been installed on the three Atlanta United turf training fields. CoolPlay is laboratory-tested and proven to reduce surface temperature by up to 35 degrees compared to traditional turf systems.

“We are absolutely thrilled to work with the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United to provide both teams with FieldTurf’s latest-and-greatest state-of-the-art playing surface,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere.  “We are extremely proud to have our product set the pace as the industry’s standard-bearer for player safety and playability.  We are extremely gratified that the Falcons and United have decided that FieldTurf is the best choice to deliver the highest quality and safest playing surface as they embark on a new era for Atlanta fans with the opening of the world-class Mercedes-Benz Stadium.”

FieldTurf’s Revolution 360 is named after the concept of completeness and its fiber features optimal durability, resilience and feel—it is the industry’s first complete fiber.  FieldTurf’s Revolution 360 achieved a score of 83 on the Fiber Performance Index (FPI), which is the highest score in the industry. It is also the only turf to have withstood 150,000 Lisport cycles (the industry’s test to determine fiber wear).
