Christopher Stevens

Savannah, Georgia

Interdisciplinary artist and SCAD alumnus Christopher Stevens (M.F.A., painting, 2015; B.F.A., painting, 2002) captures the daily routines of mid-20th-century Americans as they progress through their lives. By translating photographs of mundane affairs in small towns — Fibre, Michigan and Curtis, Nebraska, among others — into paintings, Stevens elevates that which would otherwise be everyday minutiae to impactful imagery. Stevens lives in Decatur, Georgia, where he works out of his studio. He finds inspiration in the post-World War II U.S. and he challenges the contemporary expectations of art by exploring the relationship between painting and photography. His artwork has been featured in group exhibitions throughout Atlanta, Georgia, including at Kai Lin Art and SCAD Atlanta Open Studio Night.
